As I hurridly walked down the darkening, quiet corridors of the tower, I had some doubts about how this was going to play out. If we are found out, we would all be punished, quite severly too. If not, I was still a little iffy about letting Jowan leave the Circle. If he did leave, I'd loose my best friend that I've known since I was six....but...oof!

I guess I wasn't watching where I was going because I seemed to have run into someone, and depending on who it is....I could be in a bit of trouble. I started to feel my heart beat quicken, trying to think of several good excuses as to what I was doing as I slowly looked up to see who I ran into. The person in front of me was a mage, about mid twenties, with shaggy, slightly over grown brown hair and tired brown eyes that seemed to tower over me. Oh...good...it's Nial...he's pretty trusting, lets hope I don't screw this up and give everything away. Nial looked down at me and smiled somewhat warmly.

"Oh, you're....Elena, right? Irving's star pupil?" He asked me.

"Y-yeah." I managed to say without my voice shaking too much, and luckily, Nial didn't seem to notice. He just nodded, achnowledgeing my answer and continue talking to me.

"Right, right, we've met before. Do you need something? You seemed to be in a rush to get some where." Nial pointed out. I guess I must've been going faster than I originally thought. Still, I had to think of a good reason of what I was doing.

"I was....uh....trying to go see Irving before he talked with the Knight-Commander. I wanted to talk to him about a certian spell..." I let myself trail off, figuring that Nial could figure out the rest out by himself so I had less.of a chance to mess this up. Luckily, he managed to get it as an expression of understanding seemed to flash across his face.

"Ah, I see. Well, I'm afraid you're a little late then. I just passed by Irving's study and it looked like he and the Knight-Commander were about to rip each other's throats out." he said sounding-oddly enough-somewhat amused we he glanced back in the direction of Irving's study. I guess the Knight-Commander is more hated than I originally thought, which is saying something because I was sure he was already widely hated.

"That's....good to know. Thanks Nial, but I think I'll still drop by, just a little later than I originally planned to." I said a bit to slowly it sounded like to me. Unfortunately for me, this time Nial did pick that little detail up.

"Are you alright? You seem a little anxious." he said calmly. I honestly felt my eyes widden a little. What am I going to do now? I shifted my weight from heel to toe as I desperatly thought up of some excuse to give him, this one would have to be better since now he was curious.

"I-I guess it's because...because...I had just compleated my harrowing this morning. " I tried again. It was possibly my best chance of success...and it worked, thankfully. Nial's eyes widened a little as his mouth created a small "o" of understanding.

"I see. Well, that explains it then. I'm sure it will pass. I remember that I couldn't sleep for a week after my Harrowing. I also heard that the poor boy that had his Harrowing before you hasn't stopped heaving the contents of his stomach since he came back. Do you feel anything like that?" Nial asked me, sounding a bit concerned.

"N-no...just some anxiety and a bit of paranoia." I said quickly. Nial nodded and smiled slightly.

"Well then, I hope you feel better soon. Have a good day." After that, Nial nodded slightly then walked away as if nothing had happened. I stood there, just trying to calm myself down. That was close, I gotta be more careful when I talk to people. Well, maybe the tranquil will be a bit easier since they don't have minds of their own but, still...gotta be careful.

I made my way back down to the first floor of the tower and found my way around the twists and turns of the winf=ding hallways until I found the stockroom, run by the ever known tranquil Owain. Owain was the one tranquil that most of all mages know and we've come to not really mind him, unlike the other tranquils who seem to always carry the feeling of oppression around like a pack. I walked up to Owain, who was standing in the doorway of the large half-circle room with his back to me as he attended to the questions of one of the tranquil who helped run the stockroom. I waited a few seconds, hoping that he'd turn around, but when he didn't, I just cleared my throat. When he did, he looked at me with a blank stare with unemotional eyes.

"Welcome to the stockroom. I am Owain, is there something that you need?" Owain asked with a flat monotoned voice. I took a second to push past the chilling shiver that ran down my spine as he spoke before answering him.

"I would like to request a rod of fire." I said simply looking back at his ever unemotional face.

"Why?" He asked flatly as he tilted his head to the side ever so slightly, as if trying to look curious but wasn't sure how to do it. For a second, I wasn't sure how to answer him, but then I remembered that most of the tranquil are pretty much simpleton's so it was fairly easy to come up with an excuse...even though it was kind of lame.

"To reaserch....burning stuff." I said, then mentally kicked myself for how lame that sounded. Luckily, Owain didn't seem to really notice. He just briefly looked me over from head to toe before sighing slightly.

"Very well. Please have a Senior Enchanter sign this form, then I will be able to allow you to obtain a rod of fire." He said flatly as he picked up a single sheet of paper from a near by stack and handed to me. I'll admit it, I'm not exactly happy that I had to get a stupid piece of paper signed just to get a rod of fire, but at least it was just that one thing I had to do and not like five more things. Either way, I decided to see Senior Enchantor Sweeny. If anything, Sweeny is extreamly trusting and a bit absent-minded. I'm sure I could get him to sign the paper without any real problem. So I thanked Owain then headed to Sweeny's favorite place to be...the extensive library here at the Circle.

The library at the Circle was enormous compaered to the size of the tower itself-it takes up an entire floor-but I was lucky enough to find him fairly easily. He was in the siting area, talking to Annria. Just my luck huh? I sighed and was about to walk of to see if I could wait out his conversation or find another Senior Enchanted when Annria suddenly turned to look at me.

"Oh, Elena, right? Do you need something?" she asked me, and sh actually sounded at ease and a bit....happy I guess.

"I just wanted to talk to Senior Enchanter Sweeny but if you two are having a discussion-" I started a bit nervously but Annria quickly cut me off with a simple wave of her hand.

"Don't worry, I was done talking, and I have to start packing anyway." she answered with a proud tone preasent in her voice, it was almost surprisong to hear as well to see a small smile on her face at the same time. Something was up, something had to have happened if the usual cold and a bit rude Annria was smiling happily in front of me. Not to mention that she just said that she had to pack. Priorities El, priorities.

"Pack? For what? Are you leaving?" I asked couriously. Annria's slight smile grew a little but when I mentioned 'leaving' before she crossed her arms in front of her chest

"Actually, yeah, I am leaving. That weird ponytail guy wanted to me to join the Wardens. Irving and Gregior were pretty pissed about it at first, but ponytail managed to talk them into letting me go. Pretty cool, right? " At this point, Annria's smile was big enough for me to see her teeth. She seemed really happy about leaving. "I get to finally leave this prision. Oh, and if I'm lucky enough, I might see someone I know from the Alianage. Anyway, see ya." Annria waved and smiled big one last time before walking away with a skip in her step. It's good Annria is smiling, I don't think she's smiled like that since she came here. Pushing my thoughts to the side, I turned back to Sweeny, who was already picking out another book to read, which meant that unless I acted now, he wouldn't answer to anyone until lessons start in a few hours.

"Senior Enchanted Sweeny! I called, quickly putting my hand on the book before he could open it. Sweeny looked down at me.with tired eyes and sqwinted.

"Are you an apprentice? Shouldn't you be at your lessons?" He asked me. I sighed in my head and tried to stay level as I lowered the book he was holding.

"Senior Enchanted Sweeny, I'm not an apprentance, I'm Elena...I have morning lessons with you..." I listed, urging him to remember me. Sweeny's face scrunched up a little as he thought about what I said and after a minute or so, it was replaced with sudden recognition.

"Ah, that's right. I'm sorry, my mind seems to be going. Must be age." He said with a sad smile. I instantly started to feel a bit bad for him.

"I'm sure it will pass, and maybe a spell will help if it doesn't." I assured him. Sweeny smiled at me kindly and chuckled a little.

"No, I'm sure I'll retire....eventually. but you didn't come here to ask about my old age...can I help you with anything?"

"Yes, can you sign this release form?" I handed Sweeny the paper and he briefly read over it as a look of confusion colored his face.

"A rod of fire, eh?" He asked sounding slightly suspicious, but after a while, his expression turned a bit devious as he pulled out a pencil and chuckled. "Tell you what; I'll sign this form and in return, you can burn a hole in the rear end of that templar over there. He keeps giving me the stink eye." I giggled and glanced back at the lone templar in the corner of the library glaring at Sweeny.

"I'll see what I can do." I told him, still giggling. Sweeny smiled broadly back then signed the release form, then handed it back to me. Once I had it in my hands, I couldn't stop the broad smile that found its way to my face from showing through full and proud. I raced back to where Jowan and Lily were waiting for me the moment I had the rod in my hands and said a hasty "Thank you" to Owain. When I returned, I found Jowan pacing nervously back and forth but somehow mag=naged ot notice me immediatly.

"Your back! You were gone a long time. Do you have the rod? all this waiting is making me nervous." He babbled. Lily set her tiny hand on his broad shoulder in a comforting notion but looked equally stressed. I just smiled briefly and twirrled the rod between my fingers.

"Have I ever let you down?" I asked sweetly. Jowan's face lit up immediatly and quickly threw his arms around me.

"Your fantastic El! I can't tell you how happy I am that your helping!" He said as he let go of me to look me in the eye. All I could do was smile back. Ok, so what if this is wrong? I love seeing Jowan smile like this. Jowan smiled back at me briefly then waisted no time moving on as he grabbed onto my wrist then Lily's. "Come on! Let's get started then!" And with that he lead us out of the room and towards the phylactary chamber, unaware of the danger that lurked ahead for us.

Nothing much else to say about this. I hope you like it.

Good write up of the origin so far. This includes my favorite part of the mage origin, when you're talking to Sweeny about the rod of fire. Cracks me up when he says stink eye XD And yay, last chapter had Duncan! He's such a cool guy, I wish he had a bigger part. I tried to use him as much as I could in my story before the crap hits the fan -.-
But I've digressed...
